With our family’s Native American heritage, we love old, traditional crops and this multi-purpose pole bean is no exception. Carried on the tragic forced march to Oklahoma where many Cherokees died along the way, women carried this beloved bean, sewn to the hems of their dresses. It is a wonderful purple tinged snap bean with very distinctive sweet, beany flavor. Then as it matures, it dries down to a shining black bean that is great in any recipe. One of my favorites.
